South Africa Day 4 – Up Early and to Stellenbosch

To those that don’t know, Stellenbosch is the heart of the South Africa wine region. In downtown they have a market where there are many shops for goods and food. After grabbing some lunch there we drove over to one of my favorite wineries Clos Malverne. We sampled 2 blends and 2 Pinotages, all were very nice but we ended up with a case of Merlot and 2 cases of Pinotage Reserve.

We drove home and got some soft serve ice cream and took a nap. It’s funny I don’t think I am completely over my jet lag. Going east is always tougher for me than going west.

I think that if I was to get a place down here it would be in the mountains close to the wine farms. There’s just something about going down the road for some fresh wine for $2-$5 per bottle.

I would take the wine back with me, but the corkage is not suitable for plane travel, air seems to seep in and spoil the wine. Last time 3 of the 6 bottles were off.

We are not sure about what we are doing tonight, my guess we’ll have a beer shortly.
